Housing in Bangladesh

Most expatriates live in Gulshan 1, 2 and Baridhara. These are the main diplomatic and shopping areas and this is reflected in the cost of rent. Outside of these areas, the rent will be cheaper but the accommodation may not be on par with Western standards.

Housing for expatriates is scarce and extremely expensive, especially a house. It is about four times as expensive as in Europe.

Houses and apartments generally have three to four bedrooms, but closets and storage space are limited. The layout of some houses may be different from what you would find in Western homes. Kitchens are utilitarian, and many do not have adequate space for a kitchen table. Residences have either a stone-type or marble floor. Most bedrooms have a connecting bath or one right next to it. The bedrooms tend to be on the second level with one guest bedroom on the ground level. Yards tend to be small.
